When conveying bulk material over a significant length, beyond a conventional trough belt conveyor, two options present themselves as alternatives: horizontal curve trough conveyors and pipe conveyors. Both systems can eliminate transfer towers (compared to conventional conveyors), bring down greenhouse gas emissions, and cut down operational costs (compared to trucking). Choosing the right technology is determined on a case-by-case basis, but the general rule of thumb is: - For dusty or environmentally risky material without large lumps, conveyor routes that require tight radii and where environmental protection is particularly necessary, a pipe conveyor has more advantages to offer. - For high capacities with large material size and long routes where curves are required but the radii are not too small, a horizontal curve trough conveyor is the more economical option, with less power consumption.
